Finals approaching

Dear Members

I have just returned from a trip in Europe and had the pleasure of playing tennis
with Mark and Richard at their local Tennis Club outside  Bath.
http://www.lansdownclub.co.uk
A very relaxed Club with carpet courts. Clifton has another connection with this Club as the Proudfoots, Luanne and Finley are also members, in fact I saw that Finley was standing for the committee.
Membership there is about R7000 per year!

Mark and Richard send their regards and look forward to visiting in the future.

Finals are approaching and an email has been sent out by the Organising Committee
regarding the matches and a bring and braai on Sunday 5th,

The Clifton Tennis Championships

Dear Members

The Championships are winding towards a finish and we hope to complete outstanding matches by May 15th.

The Committee has realised  that the time given to complete  the tournament  is an issue.

We will put it to the members that  next years tournament will have to be played in a shorter period and those not complying will forfeit their position.

We suggest that the tournament is played in a tighter time frame, and players secure partners who will be available for the matches.

We have had  trouble this year with players going away, getting injured, withdrawing and we believe that playing to a tighter deadline will solve a lot of these issues.

The  Committee welcomes suggestions as to how the tournament can be improved.

Thanks
Nick

New Notice Board and Suggestion Box

Dear Members

To encourage more communication between members and the committee, we have installed a new notice board.

The board is a news and notice board for members to use as well as the Committee.

You will also notice the new suggestion Box and  members are encouraged to write anything that they wish the Committee to be aware of, take cognisance, of  as well as ideas and suggestions, either anonymously or specifically.

The Championships are going well, (for the winners).
Some surprises, well done Gavin on beating Gus.
Once again we urge contenders to communicate with all players to avoid misunderstandings
when arranging matches.
Do your best to be timely.

For the Ladies playing the Round Robin format here is a guide to the point system:

1 point for playing or being able and willing to play.
1 point for each set won.
1 point for each match won.
0 points to the pair that offers a walk over.

Here are the points to date.

The La Perla Round Robin

La Perla 3rd February 2013

This took place in rather more wind than was thought. Nevertheless there were 26 participants including guests of members. Each were assigned to be either “stayers” or “swappers” and assigned within 3 groups of 4 pairs.
According to Luigi, who has kindly arranged the trophy La Perla and the winners’ vouchers for a number of years, this was top turnout compared to earlier times.
From the 3 groups the following emerged as top of the respective groups:
·       Group 1 (Rosso) Marie Perry (swapper) with 13 points; Charl Dreyer (stayer) with 15 points
·       Group 2 (Bianco) Gavin Smith (swapper) with 16 points; Russel Dor (stayer) with 19 points
·       Group 3 (Verde) Giulio Marabini (swapper) with 18 points; Frans van Pallander (stayer) with 14 points
The following were very close in their groups: Roger Perry (stayer) with 14 points, Vanessa September (swapper)  with 15 points and Shiraz (swapper) with 17 points. His partner let him down.
The two top swappers and two top stayers played out the final with victory going to Russel Dor (9 points), followed by Giulio Marabini (7 points, Charl Dreyer (5 points) and Gavin Smith (3 points).
Thanks again go to Luigi during this difficult time; to Marianne who organised the tea, to Nick and Charl for arranging the draw and preparing the score sheets, enabling play to commence promptly. Also thanks to Neville for collecting the entrance payments.  (posted by Roger).

Thanks to Roger for his help, particularly in the final format and for the following Photographs and Videos
